The US President has announced a 25 per cent tariff on imported steel and a 10 per cent tariff on aluminium.Although the details remain unclear, this will inevitably raise the cost of solar photovoltaic.
Mr Trump said he would impose a 25 per cent and 10 per cent tax on imports of steel and aluminium, and prepare possible details of the duties next week.
Roth Capital, estimated that the new tariff measures will photovoltaic component framework, by making the stents, tracking, and installation of more expensive raw materials, prompting solar pv cost 1-3 cents per watt. But as the President proposes tougher action, these effects will no doubt be capped at this range.
Details of the duties will be released next week, with President trump saying the us steel and aluminium companies have been treated unfairly and will rebuild the us steel and aluminium industries.
It is another blow to the global solar photovoltaic industry following Mr Trump's 30 per cent tariff on imported photovoltaic cells and components.According to preliminary statistics, the tariff combination of steel and aluminum can increase the cost of pv system by 0.13 usd per watt, approximately 4-13%, depending on the scale of the system.
In addition, tariffs on steel and aluminium will increase the cost of new gas plants and any new generation of power generation models.
