- Jan 15, 2018-

According to the Brazilian news agency, the achievement has made Brazil one of the 30 countries in the world where solar installations have exceeded 1 gigawatts.

The Brazilian solar energy association (Absolar) said solar power would provide electricity to about two million brazilians.

"Brazil is 15 years behind in the use of pv solar energy," said Rodrigo Sauaia, President of Absolar. As with hydropower, biomass and wind power, our solar market can also play a major role in the world.

Sauaia suggests that Brazil's solar power is still below its potential and that a national plan is needed to accelerate the development of the sector.
