However, while it is not common to recycle small lithium-ion batteries, many companies want to recycle their car batteries and are trying to profit from recycling used car batteries in various ways.
Since 2006, the beautiful Belgian company has become one of the few companies to recycle lithium-ion batteries.It USES a smelting and chemical leaching process to recover the metal.The company says it is now conducting a pilot project to recycle electric car batteries.This is to prepare for a likely "sizeable" number of car batteries to enter the market in 2025.
One problem is that lithium-ion batteries on electric vehicles use a variety of chemical processes that make it difficult to standardise recycling.
The argonne national laboratory, transportation research center, an analyst at Linda ˙ gaines said: "everyone in their way.It's much easier to recycle lead-acid batteries."
The oregon-based OnTo technology company hopes to skirt the issue.The method is to make high-quality battery electrode materials directly from waste batteries, rather than dismantling the battery components.
The company founder Steve ˙ sloop said: "by 2025, it will certainly become a vibrant industry.Between now and 2020, it will try to practice and take back the materials for manufacturing."
The Canadian recycling company lithium cycle says it needs to recycle all of its battery materials to be profitable.The company says it can recycle all kinds of lithium-ion batteries and recover 90 percent of its materials, including lithium, cobalt, copper and graphite.
