China energy storage network: according to the latest forecasts from the U.S. energy information administration (EIA), global gas use is expected to increase from 340 billion cubic feet per day in 2015 to 485 billion cubic feet per day in 2040.Growth is mainly in Asia and the Middle East.
China is expected to account for more than a quarter of global natural gas use in 2015-2040, driven by competition from environmental policies, the relative cost of natural gas in industrial and transportation sectors and relatively high economic growth.
The EIA said China's 13th five-year plan aims to reduce air pollution and carbon emissions, mainly using natural gas instead of coal and oil, to increase its proportion in energy composition.
The government has set a target of increasing the share of natural gas in the energy mix from 5.9% in 2015 to 10% by 2020 and 15% by 2030.
The EIA estimates that China's natural gas use will increase from 19 billion cubic feet per day to 57 billion cubic feet per day in 2040, far beyond the United States.
Between 2015 and 2040, us gas use growth is expected to be more modest, from 75 billion cubic feet per day to 88 billion cubic feet per day, but still the world's largest consumer of natural gas.
