It is reported that a 200MW solar project was completed in dubai, united Arab emirates.According to WAM, the state news agency, the project is the first phase of the 800MW power station in the third phase of the Mohammed bin rashid al maksim solar park built by the dubai electricity and water authority.
The second and third phases, each with a capacity of 300MW, will be completed in 2019 and 2020 respectively.
The director and chief executive of the dubai water authority praised the solar project, which helped strengthen the uae's global leadership in clean energy.
"The solar project is the first solar power plant in the Middle East and north Africa, and has an advanced solar tracking system that can increase the efficiency of electricity generation," he said.In addition, the project USES unique technologies, including over 800,000 self-cleaning solar cells, to maintain high performance levels.
The project will provide electricity to more than 60,000 homes and reduce carbon emissions by 270,000 tonnes a year.
By 2020, 7% of dubai's total power generation will come from clean energy, up from 25% by 2030 and 75% by 2050, according to the dubai clean energy strategy 2050.
