BYD Re-signs 18 MW Project And Three UK Energy Storage Orders

- Oct 09, 2019-

The UK has become another major market for BYD's energy storage business after the United States. Recently, BYD (002594) stored energy was awarded the UK 18 MW container storage project. This is another order after BYD won 43 MW and 50 MW in the UK market this year. The first two orders are 43MW and 50MW energy storage projects respectively.

This energy storage project will adopt BYD's 1.26 MW / 1.26 MWh and 0.63 MW / 0.63 MWh standard container system. The energy storage system is mainly composed of battery pack, inverter, power distribution equipment and monitoring system. Part of the composition, while the internal air conditioning, lighting, ventilation, fire protection and other auxiliary systems. It has high modularity, simple structure, easy installation and maintenance, and later expansion. It can be applied to various application scenarios such as wind and light storage.

China's energy storage industry started in the early 21st century. The first 10 years of the 21st century is the technology research and development stage, mainly for technical units to carry out basic research and technical verification demonstration. Since 2017, the energy storage industry has entered the initial stage of commercialization, and the development experience gained from demonstration applications has been commercialized. The installed capacity of China's energy storage projects has increased rapidly and the business model has been gradually established.

In October 2017, a number of ministries and commissions jointly issued the “Guiding Opinions on Promoting Energy Storage Technology and Industrial Development”, which is the first domestic guidance on the development of energy storage industry. This means that the energy storage industry has got rid of the "empty window period" of top-level design and has moved to a new stage of "coordinated planning" and "coordinated development".

In 2017, the output of lithium battery energy storage market was about 3.5GWh, up 13% year-on-year; the output value was 5.5 billion yuan, up 7% year-on-year. 2018 will be the beginning of the rapid development of China's energy storage industry.

As the energy storage industry ushers in the spring, in the domestic, BYD has installed and is participating in the implementation of battery energy storage projects including Shenzhen Baoqing Energy Storage Power Station, Zhangbei Wind and Light Storage and Demonstration Project and nuclear power plant emergency power supply and other demonstration projects. At the same time, BYD has signed energy storage projects with the United States, Australia, Italy, South Africa and other countries in the overseas energy storage market. New energy products have spread to more than 200 countries on 5 continents.

Behind the frequent acquisition of orders, not only because of its brand influence, but more importantly, BYD storage has excellent system integration capabilities. Since its inception in 1995, BYD has been committed to battery and energy storage technology research, and has established a complete new energy ecological closed loop, which is convenient for operation and maintenance, and can provide safe and reliable one-stop solutions and services.

In November 2017, B-Box's high-pressure energy storage system designed and developed by BYD won the global “Top Innovation” award from the international new energy industry authoritative journal “Photovoltaic Magazine” (pvmagazine). The judges agreed that the system made breakthroughs in terms of modularity, charge and discharge performance and efficiency, and decided to award the global award to BYD, saying that BYD battery energy storage system is “top innovation”.

The UK is another emerging energy storage market that has risen rapidly after the United States, Germany and Japan. In the future, the UK government will further implement policies conducive to energy storage through 29 action plans, while ensuring a stable policy environment and investment environment, and providing more solid support for the development of energy storage. BYD is aiming at the UK energy storage market in a timely manner, which will help it seize the UK's energy storage market share in advance.
