The Minety project, located 12 miles northwest of Swindon, is the largest battery energy storage development project in Europe. Construction began in December 2019 and is scheduled to begin operation in the fall of 2020. The new 50MW project will be built on nearby land and will be operational in 2021.
The CEO of Penso Power stated that the Minety project is a landmark project in the field of battery energy storage in the UK and one of the most important battery energy storage projects in Europe to date. The construction of the project will help the UK build a greener electricity system and help balance the intermittent nature of renewable power generation.
It is reported that the Minety battery energy storage project is constructed and operated by China Huaneng Group Co., Ltd.
