China energy storage net news: Indian government, said a senior GuanYuanKu mar by 2022, India can not only achieve its installed capacity of 17.5 billion megawatts of renewable energy targets, but also can surpass this goal.

"You all agree that this is a fairly ambitious goal.

As technology advances and the price of solar and wind power falls, we believe we will exceed the target, "said Anand Kumar, the new energy and renewable energy minister.

In the next five years, the government plans to increase solar power capacity to 10 gigawatts.

India has added 7.5 gigawatts of electricity in the past four quarters, bringing the total to 16.2 gigawatts, according to Indian companies.

"The key challenge is how we should increase energy consumption in India to make people willing to pay the price," Mr. Kumar said at Wednesday's "renewable energy" India expo.

He said the department wants to introduce large hydropower projects under the definition of renewable energy.

"We are exploring the possibility of using offshore wind power," he said.

Wind power has a target of 600 gigawatts.

Kumar says a policy that will force power plants to generate a percentage of renewable energy is also under consideration.
