It can be noted that Qingtao Energy, which has reached a cooperation with the company, is a technology enterprise focusing on the transformation of the new energy materials technology industry. At present, it has built an independent intellectual property system for the industrialization of solid lithium batteries. As early as last November, Qingtao Energy's solid lithium battery production line with 10,000 solid-state batteries per day has been put into production. The energy density of the battery can reach 400Wh/kg or more. The products will be mainly used in special power supply, high-end digital and other fields. It is expected to enter the field of power battery applications in 2020.
It is understood that Qingtao Energy, founded by the team of Tsinghua University's Nancewen academicians, is one of the early teams to develop all-solid-state lithium battery technology in China. Around the development of solid-state lithium batteries, the company has applied for nearly 100 patents. At present, it has overcome the mass production of solid electrolyte materials, solid electrolyte membrane molding technology, composite positive and negative anode formula, solid-solid interface between pole piece and electrolyte membrane. The series of problems has successfully realized the industrialization of research and development results such as oxide solid electrolyte materials and functional ion conductor ceramic composite diaphragms.
From the market situation, the layout of new car power in the core technology fields such as power batteries has always been bold. For example, Weilai ES6 became the first model to assemble Ningde NCM811 battery, with higher energy density and cruising range. However, it is difficult to balance the performance and safety under the existing liquid lithium battery system, so the exploration of the next generation of power battery technology is imperative.
The industry generally believes that solid-state batteries are the main development trend in the future. The negative electrode of solid-state lithium battery can be made of metal lithium. The energy density of the battery is expected to reach 300-400Wh/kg or even higher. It can match the high-voltage electrode material, further improve the mass energy density, and has more advantages in supporting long-distance driving of electric vehicles. Just last month, Aichi Automobile and Huineng Technology reached a cooperation agreement, the two sides will jointly develop solid-state batteries as the development and application of vehicle-mounted power battery-related technologies, and promote the commercialization of power solid-state batteries. In August of this year, Weilai Automobile and Huineng Technology reached a strategic cooperation, and the two parties will jointly build a prototype vehicle using the Huineng MAB solid-state battery pack. In the future, as the prototype is off the assembly line, the two sides will conduct more in-depth discussions on the production cooperation of solid-state battery packs.
Before the Weilai Automobile, Skyrim exhibited the first electric car ME7 prototype equipped with solid-state batteries in China in early 2019. Zhang Hailiang, chairman and CEO of Skyline Automotive, said that Skyline solid-state batteries will be mass-produced and loaded on the market in 2021, and the energy density of batteries can exceed 300Wh/kg. At that time, Skyrim will become the first domestic OEM to use solid-state batteries, and Sky ME7 will likely become the first new energy vehicle in China with solid-state batteries as its power source. During the Shanghai Auto Show in April this year, Sky Auto reached a cooperation with Huineng Technology in the solid-state battery business.
It is reported that Huineng Technology, which has reached cooperation with the three new vehicles, actually realized the mass production of solid-state batteries as early as a few years ago, but those products are mainly used in the field of consumer electronics. In the past two years, the company has accelerated its new energy. The layout of the automotive sector. The G1 plant, which was built in Taiwan in 2013, is the first production line in the world to produce solid-state lithium battery coils. It plans to complete the 1GWh expansion by the end of 2019, when the total capacity of solid-state batteries will reach 1.5~. 2GWh.
In addition to reaching an agreement with the OEM, Huineng Technology has also strengthened its cooperation with battery companies. In April 2019, Huineng Technology and Nandu Power reached a preliminary agreement on the authorization cooperation of solid-state battery production technology. Huineng Technology authorized the production of solid-state battery cells with an energy density of about 240Wh/kg to Nandu Power and provided the necessary production. As early as the beginning of 2018, the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance established a $1 billion venture capital fund, and its first investment project was the development of cobalt-free solid-state batteries. In March of the same year, Toyota and Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance respectively said that it is planned to introduce electric vehicles equipped with solid-state batteries between 2022 and 2025. However, although solid-state batteries are highly anticipated, many industry experts have pointed out that solid-state batteries still suffer from problems in the study of electrolyte materials and electrode materials, and the high-impedance of interfaces cannot be effectively solved. Materials with good performance are costly, while materials that are acceptable for cost are not well conductive and stable. Therefore, solid-state batteries still face the double problem of technological breakthrough and cost control.
