The World's First Solar Battery Train Is Available! Equipped With Energy Storage Lithium Battery For Night Power Supply

- Nov 06, 2019-

Solar cars have precedents, but solar trains we rarely hear about. Recently, South East Australia, Byron Bay, New South Wales, appeared the world's first solar train.

Train shape

The prototype of the train was a 1949 "hardcore" train that used to travel on a 3km long coastal track connecting Byron town centre, North Beach area and Byron Art Manor.

Transforming it into a solar train is a group of passionate train enthusiasts who are known to have created non-profit companies such as Byron BayRailroad Company and NickelEnergy. The two companies replaced the diesel engines of traditional trains with solar-powered electric traction engines.

The roof of the train has two curved solar panels that can generate up to 6.5 kW of electricity to charge the lithium-ion battery inside the car. In addition, 30 kW of photovoltaic panels on the roof of the train provide additional power support, and the remaining energy generated will be delivered to the grid. When the train runs on a cloudy or nighttime and cannot get power from its own solar panels, the lithium-ion battery inside the car can be recharged from the grid, and the electricity used by the grid is generated by renewable energy from local suppliers. to make.

In addition to the power system being powered by electricity, all other equipment on the train is battery powered, including lighting, air compressors and control circuitry.

As a world-famous tourist city, the renovation of this solar train in Byron Bay is undoubtedly successful, generating minimum carbon emissions and attracting tourists' attention and increasing the amount of tourism. So the Byron Bay Railway Company also said: "We are very proud to be able to build the world's first solar train. We are forever grateful to all those who have contributed wisdom and support to achieve this goal."
