Hydrogen Fuel Cars Will Not Replace Pure Electric?

- Nov 25, 2019-

The technical route of new energy vehicles has become the focus of the 2019 China Automotive Industry Development (TEDA) Forum.

"There is a partial media interpretation of the country will no longer support pure electric, and instead support hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, some industry companies also believe that China's new energy vehicle technology route will be shaken." August 31, the Ministry of Finance Economic Construction Division level inspection Song Qiu Ling said at the TEDA Forum.

The reason for this controversy is that the subsidies for pure electric vehicles have fallen sharply, and hydrogen fuel cells will still receive financial support from the state for some time to come. However, in the past few years, driven by financial subsidies, China's pure electric vehicles have developed rapidly, and certain technological breakthroughs have been formed. With the decline of costs, it is no longer the period when the industry relies on subsidies for sales.

In fact, in the next stage, the state's support for pure electric vehicles will mainly be in the application scenarios such as infrastructure construction and ease of use. The support attitude of the relevant departments for pure electric vehicles has not changed.

However, Song Qiuling also pointed out that at present, the global manufacturing industry is intensifying competition and the external environment is deteriorating. There is still a gap between China's new energy vehicles and the international advanced level. Some deep-seated problems and contradictions of new energy vehicles have begun to emerge.

As early as the beginning of this century, China has established "three vertical and three horizontal" (three vertical: fuel cell vehicle, hybrid vehicle, pure electric vehicle three vehicle technology; three horizontal: multi-energy powertrain system, drive motor R & D layout of three key technologies of power battery. However, on the whole, the industry has developed to the present day. The consensus in the industry is that new energy vehicles should develop different technical routes according to different actual conditions and needs, and they are complementary to each other rather than a substitute relationship.

It is worth mentioning that in the view of Yang Yusheng, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, energy conservation and emission reduction are the tenets of electric vehicles. "From the whole life cycle of electric vehicles, long-mile pure electric vehicles do not save energy and reduce emissions, plug-in hybrid vehicles, fake energy-saving emission reduction, fuel cell electric vehicles are difficult to save energy and reduce emissions, micro-small pure electric vehicles really save energy and reduce emissions, increase The program electric car is very energy-saving and emission-reducing." Yang Yusheng said.
