The Battery Contains Carcinogens, And Volkswagen May Recall 124, 000 New Energy Vehicles

- Aug 06, 2018-

Volkswagen has said it may be forced to recall 124, 000 electric and hybrid cars after cadmium, a carcinogenic metal, was found in the battery chargers used in its electric cars. The German federal motor transport authority will explain the recall.

Cadmium has been used in many older cars in multi-layer laminated slabs for throttling, but is now banned from most car parts because of its carcinogenic effects. An unidentified supplier delivered a shipment of cadmium-loaded battery chargers in June 2013-2018 that have been installed in some electric and hybrid cars under the brands of Volkswagen, audi and porsche.

The 124,000 cars have yet to be recalled as vw awaits a ruling from Germany's federal motor transport authority to determine whether chargers violate health and safety standards.
