The U.S. Naval Research Laboratory Is Developing New Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Solar Technology

- Jun 25, 2018-

Recently, the us naval research laboratory (NRL) is developing a new unmanned aerial vehicle (uav) solar energy technology, using thermal and solar energy to power the unmanned aerial vehicle (uav), in order to achieve the goal of life more than 12 hours.

New technology, the plane can take advantage of the rising hot air flow to climb, by solar battery power directly for unmanned aerial vehicle (uav) after a conversion, motor closed, gliding process can speed up the solar panels to onboard battery, so as to increase the battery life of uavs, and allow the plane carrying smaller size batteries. The technology could be deployed on a variety of unmanned platforms, including small rq-11 ravens and large mq-1 predator drones.
