West Africa's Largest Solar Power Center Was Built

Zagtuli solar power center, located in the suburb of Ouagadougou, the capital of burkina faso, was officially completed.Covering an area of 60 hectares, the project has a maximum capacity of 33 megawatts, or 5 per cent of total output, the largest in west Africa.

The center is being built by cegelectric power, a unit of French energy giant VINCI, which supplies solar panels to SolarWorld, Germany.The total cost of the project is 47.5 million euros, which is funded by the European Union and the French development agency.The head of the power company in burkina faso says it plans to start the second phase of the plant in 2018, with overall solar power generating up to 50 megawatts.The second phase of the project, which will cost 25 million euros, is currently in the process of bidding.
